Test Information

When you take any Driving Test, Theory or Practical, you MUST bring BOTH parts of your Driving Licence with you.

Theory and Hazard Perception Test

The Theory Test can be taken at any time once you have your provisional driving licence, but must be passed before you can apply for your Practical Test. For the Theory Test you will need to correctly answer 43 out of 50 multiple choice questions. This is conducted on a touch screen computer. Some questions will have 1 correct answer, some will have 2, 3 or 4.

For the Hazard Perception part of the test you will watch 14 video clips, containing 15 developing hazards. You need to click the mouse when you see the hazard develop. The pass mark for this part of the test is 44 out of 75.

Practical Test

You will pass the Practical Test if you show the examiner that you can drive in a safe and confident way. You will be asked to read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres to check your eyesight. The examiner will then ask you to answer 2 of the show me/tell me questions. You will also be asked to carry out a reversing manoeuvre, and possibly an emergency stop.

The driving test lasts about 45 minutes and for most of that time the examiner will direct you, however for about 10 minutes you will be asked to drive independently, following road signs to a specified place. You will be told the result at the end of your test.
